Loose dentures can be a hassle to your daily routine. At times, you get even embarrassed because your dentures slip off! Therefore, you should have your dentures in San Jose checked regularly.

Here are some things you need to know regarding why your dentures become loose, what to do with them, and how to prevent this scenario altogether.

What You Should Know About Loose Dentures

Causes of Loose Dentures

Our teeth and gums do not stay the same when one tooth is extracted. The jawbone begin to shrink because they do not hold teeth in place. This process is called bone resorption, and it affects the rest of your teeth and the fit of your dentures.

You may have also used fewer adhesives, making your dentures slip off easily. Aside from this, your diet can also affect your dentures, like eating foods that are too hard to chew with dentures.

When not taken care of, your dentures' acrylic base and teeth will start to wear out, losing their snug fit. Plaque buildup can also cause this to happen as its acid can affect the base's durability.

How to Fix Loose Dentures

Firstly, you must ensure that you follow the advised amount of adhesives to use in your dentures. When this does not work, you immediately schedule an appointment with your dentist to see if adjustments are needed to be made.

Your dentures might only need to be relined to fit again. If not, you need to replace your prosthesis with your new dentures. Your dentist is expected to give you advice on how to take care of your dentures better for a more comfortable and longer lasting fit.

How to Avoid Loose Dentures

You have to avoid sleeping with your dentures on as much as possible. Otherwise, the pressure you apply with your sleeping position would alter the shape of your dentures, reducing their longevity.

Your sleeping time is perfect for your dentures to be soaked in a solution to maintain their cleanliness and moisture. Avoid using solutions with chlorine and bleach, as this can damage the dentures, especially if they have a metal framework.

It would be best if you also clean your dentures every day. Use a soft-bristled brush and the right kind of toothpaste to clean them. Avoid using whitening toothpaste as this is too abrasive for your dentures.

Remember to put a towel on your sink or table to avoid breaking your dentures if they fall accidentally. They are very fragile, and once they fall, the base may deform or break.

Avoid using hot water when rinsing them, as this can cause warping. Also, never use toothpicks to get rid of food particles and deposits from your dentures, too, as they can damage acrylic teeth.
