Did you know that people with dental flaws are more likely to report feeling anxious or depressed? If you’re overly concerned about being judged for the way your smile looks, you might try to remain tight-lipped or avoid spending time with others, which can detract from your daily quality of life.
Fortunately, your dentist can address one or more aesthetic imperfections with porcelain veneers. But many patients have questions before proceeding with this popular cosmetic service, like how many restorations they’ll need to achieve their goals. Continue reading to learn more about it!
What Are Veneers?
This treatment involves cementing several thin, ceramic shells to the fronts of your enamel to mask concerns such as chips, cracks, stubborn stains, or mild misalignments. They’re usually about 0.2 to 0.5 mm thick and are carefully customized to be the ideal size, color, and shape for beautiful, lifelike results you can feel proud of.
Not only that, but these hard covers are coated with a glaze durable enough to resist damage and discoloration, and therefore help shield the underlying teeth from potential harm. They often last 20+ years if cared for correctly.
Am I A Good Candidate for Veneers?
It’s worth noting that for these restorations to fit correctly, your dentist must remove a small amount of enamel from the underlying teeth. If you have severely broken, decayed, or otherwise injured teeth, you might not have enough healthy material to anchor your veneers in place.
Before proceeding, you must schedule a consultation with your dentist so they can examine your current dental condition and discuss the improvements you’d like to make. Then, based on their findings, they can recommend an appropriate treatment, such as placing porcelain veneers.
How Many Veneers Will I Need?
Many patients want to know how many veneers they will need to perfect their smile, but the answer can vary significantly depending on their unique circumstances. With that said, it’s common to receive 8 veneers for your top front teeth, which are usually the most visible.
But if you only have one or two teeth with minor issues, you might not require as many veneers. However, if you have a wider smile, you may require 10 or more shells to cover your visible enamel. Others with more extensive staining or other issues may opt for prosthetics on each tooth to achieve a more uniform appearance.
Once you’ve had your initial consultation with your dentist, they can provide more detailed information about how many veneers you might need to build the beautiful smile you’ve always dreamed of!
